Netflix Stories Gets Cancelled, But You Can Still Play It!

Netflix is officially shutting the doors on its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner. It marks the end of a short experiment in narrative gaming. The decision is a bit surprising since the game had a solid player base. So, why did Netflix Stories get cancelled? Keep reading to get the full scoop!

The news, first confirmed by Variety, comes as part of a broader strategic shift at Netflix Games. Apparently, Netflix Games will now focus on mobile titles in party games, kids’ games, mainstream releases and more interactive experiences that can be played on TV.

Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the Netflix Stories series, will still be working on other projects, including Squid Game: Unleashed.

Netflix Stories Gets Cancelled, So Is It Shutting Down?

Despite criticism, the game consistently ranked among the most-played Netflix Games. Based on recent reports, it’s sitting fourth in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel (which measures playtime instead of downloads).

Speaking of the game’s future, the last interactive title in the lineup will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once its rollout is complete, no new Netflix Stories games will be developed. The news comes right after the Netflix Stories app had started teasing its next game, The Love Contract, which was originally set for an April 8th release.

Unlike previous entries, this one wasn’t based on any Netflix IP. It was an original romance story about an actress caught between a Hollywood star and a billionaire in a whirlwind of fame, scandal, and fake dating. But now, the game has been scrapped!

Despite the game getting cancelled, the existing Netflix Stories games will remain available. Titles such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River and The Perfect Couple will still be playable. But planned sequels like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been cancelled.

So, that’s the scoop! Check out the game on the Google Play Store if you like Netflix shows.
